Proverbs 9

whoever corrects a mocker invites insult; whoever rebukes a wicked man incurs abuse. do not rebuke a mocker or he will hate you; rebuke a wise man and he will love you. instruct a wise man and he will be wiser still; teach a righteous man and he will add to his learning.


Definitely the wisest thing I've heard all day. Argue with someone who thinks they're right all the time, and it will end in a hostile mess. Advise a wise person, and they will take the lesson and become wiser. So the instruction for us here is to be open to new lessons because they will make wiser still.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding

The woman Folly is loud; and she is undisciplined without knowledge.

Folly is the stupid place we always run because it's so tempting. "stolen water is sweet; food eaten in secret is delicious!" This says secrecy is good and delicious even. It's more exciting and thrilling to hide our deepest secrets.

But little do they know that the dead are there, that her guests are in the depths of the grave

that's the problem. When we hide our actions, we start to hide ourselves, and eventually our souls end up in the grave.
