True Self

We're learning about what it means to be your authentic self. We know that our identity is found in Christ, but sometimes this is hard to know exactly what that means to each of us personally.

Without saying, "my true self is a child of God" or something that would encompass every person, what is your true self? How do you live out the way God has uniquely created you?

I truly believe that I was born to teach and to help others learn how to be independent. I try to live each day as fully as I can and as close to God's purpose as I can. Whether it's dealing with roommate situations or working at school, my heart is always convicted to embrace the people around me that need a support to lean on and loving guidance. It's hard to be this person every day. And many days I feel unsuccessful in this endeavor. It's hard for me to think of what "true" self means. I know in my heart that my OLD self died with Jesus on the cross - he took my sins and gave me grace to live a NEW life...a life filled with mercy and God's purpose. But sometimes I feel that old person in me, the dead remains of my sinful nature that lead me toward gossip, impurity of the mind, and people pleasing habits. I think, then, that my "true" self is a combination of my old self and my new self - it is the combination of my struggles as a Christian woman and the drive to become a disciple of the Lord and to serve Him in any and every capacity that He needs me to.
